About US:
The Insurance Regulatory Authority of Uganda (IRA) was established under section 14 of the Insurance Statute 1996 now The Insurance Act, (Chap213) Laws of Uganda, 2000 (Insurance Act) which came into effect on 4th April 1996 and commenced operations in April 1997. The establishment of the Insurance Regulatory Authority of Uganda was a consequence of Government’s adoption of the liberalization and privatization policies which ended its role of directly engaging in the provision of goods and services and taking on the role of supervisor or regulator.
Job Summary: The ICT Officer will provide operational support to the Authority’s core ICT operations as well as quality first line technical support to systems users to ensure optimal performance of both system infrastructure and personnel.
Key Duties and Responsibilities:
- Implement and maintain policies and procedures to support ICT service level agreements.
- Maintain and communicate ICT policies and procedures throughout the Authority in accordance with best practice and appropriate standards taking into account any legal requirements.
- Formulate ICT proposals, processes, policies for planning and business continuity plan for approval.
- Maintain server room in a tidy manner and ensure that devices and network points are identified with labels.
- Repair and recover the system from hardware or software failures and implement the preventive maintenance exercises.
- Issue right configurations to the server and workstation infrastructure and carry out scheduled health checks.
- Prepare reports and documentation on network affecting incidents.
- Configure security gateway with ACL on the Cisco router and routinely check the status of intrusion attempts.
- Maintain all the registers (access, equipment) and logs (error, access) pertaining to the role and train staff on the use of existing and new technology.
- Carry out any other duty as may be assigned from time to time.
Key Performance Indicators
- Strong and robust ICT system and network.
- Recovery of data in events of disc crashes.
- Updated network layout diagrams.
Qualifications, Skills and Experience:
- The applicant for the Insurance Regulatory Authority of Uganda (IRA) ICT Officer job placement must hold a Bachelor’s (Honors) Degree in Computer Science or any equivalent qualification from the recognized higher institution of learning.
- Personal presentation
- Knowledge of Cisco routing and switching, VPN connectivity
- Knowledge of Windows operating systems and Microsoft Office
