ACTED has been present in Uganda since 2007, and currently implements its interventions in Karamoja, WestNile, South West and Northern Uganda.
Job Summary: The Senior Driver is responsible for the safety of all passengers as well as other road users. The driver is also responsible for the maintenance of his vehicle.
Key Duties and Responsibilities:
- Transport persons and goods as requested by ACTED
- Conduct vehicle services and maintenances as required by ACTED
- During the entire working time the driver has to be available to ensure all goods and personal transportation required by ACTED;
- Every morning, the driver has to verify the oil level, cooling liquid, and the tire pressure;
- Every week, he has to verify the water level and battery status;
- Correctly fill in and update the logbook;
- Keep driving license and car papers valid and ready for inspection;
- Inform the supervisor immediately in case of damage/accident/technical failure to the car;
- When ordered by supervisor, refill the car according to ACTED procedures;
- Refill the car whenever necessary or when the level gets under half of the tank capacity;
- Help loading and unloading the car;
- Technical maintenance of the vehicle;
- Adjust vehicle speed to road conditions and drive with consideration for the safety of the passengers and other road users.
- Ensure that the following items are always in the car: logbook, tools and spare parts, complete first aid kit and two spare wheels in good condition.
- Ensure that security time is strictly observed as per ACTED fleet manual.
- Any other duty assigned by the supervisor
Qualifications, Skills and Experience:
- The applicant for the ACTED Senior Driver job placement should possess a Valid Driver’s License and capable of Defensive Driving; and a minimum of an intermediate school certificate.
- Five years’ professional driving experience with a safe driving record.
- Thorough knowledge of driving rules and regulations and be conversant with the Road Security Code.
- Proficient to effectively communicate in English (verbal and written).
- Possess basic skills in minor vehicle repairs and maintenance. Vocational training in auto maintenance and repair would be a plus.
- Excellent interpersonal skills and a commitment to team-oriented work.
- Available to work during odd hours, weekends
- Willingness to drive throughout Uganda.
