About US:
Makerere University School of Public Health (MakSPH) in collaboration with the Global
Women’s Institute (GWI) at the George Washington University (GWU) and the Lutheran
World Federation (LWF) intend to undertake a study titled, “Gender Based Violence amongst South Sudanese Refugee and Host Women Populations in Adjumani and Moyo
Districts, Uganda.” The study seeks to document the magnitude and scope of gender based violence (GBV), associated factors or drivers and barriers to access to GBV services so that members of the humanitarian community in addition to the Ugandan government can develop and implement context-specific interventions to prevent and manage GBV in vulnerable refugee populations.
Key Duties and Responsibilities:
- Attend pre-data collection training and piloting sessions
- Administer the informed consent in accordance with the study protocol
- Conduct and complete survey interviews using tablets in accordance with the study protocol
- Ensuring data collected from the field is correctly saved the existing data bases on the allotted server
- Conduct focus group discussions with the appropriate respondents
- Participate in data management processes including translation and transcription of qualitative data
- Ensure quality assurance of the data collected
- Perform any other tasks as required by the Field Supervisor and Research Team
Qualifications, Skills and Experience:
- The ideal candidate must hold a Bachelor’s degree in Humanities, Statistics, Demography and Population studies, Information Technology, Public Health, Environmental Health and any other Medical, Biomedical and Biological related Disciplines
- Preferably Female because of the sensitive nature of the topic understudy among women populations
- At least 6 months of prior experience in quantitative and/or qualitative data collection for a reputable organization/institution
- Experience using electronic data collection software e.g. ODK, etc
- Proficiency in spoken and written English and at least one of the locally spoken languages among the South Sudanese and Host populations – that is Arabic, Dinka, Madi, Neur and Acholi
- Excellent communication, organizational and interpersonal skills
- Ability to spend a period of time in rural areas away from home
- Ability to work in a diverse team independently with minimal supervision and observe deadlines
- Integrity/Respect for colleagues
