About USAID ICAN Project:

Abt Associates is implementing the USAID/Uganda’s Integrated Community, Agriculture, and Nutrition (ICAN) Activity, which will aim to sustainably enhance the resilience of vulnerable households by increasing economic opportunities for poor households, improving nutrition with a focus on women and children, and strengthening community and local governance.

Job Summary: The IT Assistant and Administration Specialist will establish, manage and maintain ICAN’s computer network and support the finance and administrative team. This may include, but is not limited to the following:

Key Duties and Responsibilities: 

  • Ensure the smooth operation of the office internet connection and regularly check the flow provided by the ISP to enable staff to work in optimal conditions
  • With the Administration and Finance Officer, create and update a Workstation Inventory List to manage physical inventory of all equipment and software
  • Provide technical support for major and/or urgent problems with LAN or any of its components (server crash, virus attack, hard drive failure, etc.). Provide on-call assistance to individuals as needed
  • Supervise File Server backups (weekly full backup, daily incremental on file server, and monthly backups of file server and users data)
  • Perform desktop and laptop computer support, including performing routine preventive maintenance (disk scan, deleting temp files, defragmentation, etc.); installing software patches and upgrades, troubleshooting hardware or software problems; and ensuring users are backing up their data files on the server
  • Provide basic training of Windows Office products
  • Support the finance and administration team with administrative support as needed
  • Other duties as required

Qualifications, Skills and Experience:

  • The ideal candidate for the IT Assistant and Administration Specialist  USAID Project job placement should hold a two-year post-secondary school technical diploma or Bachelor’s Degree in computer science or computer engineering
  • Two years of professional experience in IT network administration in a Windows NT environment, including internet access support. Three years of experience and high school diploma OR the equivalent combination of education and experience
  • Ability to manage and provide technical oversight to junior programmers and consultants
  • A comprehensive ability to work in collaboration with high level managers and technical advisors
  • Excellent interpersonal communication, organizational, and computer skills
  • English language fluency
