Job Summary: The Land Cartographer will support the ‘Securing Land for Sustainable Agri-Business Program’ in Acholi (Nwoya district). The Land Cartographer will support theprogram team in (digitalizing) the land demarcation and registration process, and is responsible for the digitalization of land files and land Certificates of Customary Ownership (CCOs) in close cooperation with the relevant authorities at sub-county and district level.

Key Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Support land demarcation teams (incl. Area Land Committees) in land demarcation:
  • Coach and train land demarcation teams in use of digital devices for land demarcation;
  • Avail statistical reports and data for demarcation activities i.e. # of conflicts, # of parcels mapped, # of applications received, data disaggregated by gender among others;
  • Work closely with Land Office on the submission of land application files and on the actual preparation of CCO land certificates in paper and digital form;
  • Support Land Office in digitalization of land application files i.e. plotting land data in QGIS, produce prints from QGIS to be attached to files
  • Ensure to keep digital land files up to date in QGID database system;
  • Closely liaise with the Ministry of Lands, Housing and Urban Development, Nwoya
  • District Local Government, and other key stakeholders on land for training on digital data collection, sharing of up to date land statistics and technical backstopping;
  • Act as program focal point for land digital data collection;
  • Participate in relevant land meetings at sub-county, district and national level

Qualifications, Skills and Experience: 

  • The applicant for the ZOA Land Cartographer job placement should preferably hold a Diploma or degree in Cartography or other relevant field;
  • Previous working experience in land demarcation and registration;
  • Proven working experience in digital data collection;
  • Expert on QGIS and excel;
  • Excellent community mobilization and facilitation skills;
  • Strong documentation skills;
  • Command of Luo-language is an advantage;
  • Willingness to live and work in Nwoya District
  • Able to ride a motorcycle (valid permit is required)
  • Strong Christian background; adhering to the Christian identity of ZOA.
  • Possess a stable personality, who enjoys working with little supervision and in a dynamic environment, able to endure some hardship and with mature mindset to integrate and express Christian values in work.
