Job Title: Operations Officer
Organisation: AgriShare Uganda
Duty Station: Kampala, Uganda
About US:
AgriShare Uganda is a tech-startup for hiring/renting agricultural resources to farmers via a mobile app, website, and village agents using a shared economy model (It is all about doing business, make a social impact, have fun, and make a legacy!). So, we are like Uber for farmers, but providing land, irrigation, tractor, trucks, labor, and processing services (But who knows, we may add or reduce the services).
Job Summary: As Operations Officer, you will work with a dynamic group of 3 – 6 individuals, some working from home, others (like you) working from our not yet fully furnished field office in Luweero, and sometimes at a co-working space in Kampala in a space with other start-ups.
Key Duties and Responsibilities:
- Make yourself a cup of coffee or tea. Enjoy snacks carried by one of the team members (While some don’t, others carry berries, sweet banana, and groundnut! What will you carry?).
- Check your mail for any communications from the director, partners and team members (make sure you reply). Of course, most times will meet-up with team either physically or online!
- Login to Teams app, check for outstanding tasks assigned to you and as well respond to any chats from team members or boss (boss communicates via Teams chat more than the emails).
- Complete the Teams tasks. Make a phone call to our agent (s) or promoter. Pull out one of our cool motor-bikes to visit an eagerly waiting farmer group to tell them about AgriShare. Meet and convince a potential partner with resources for hiring/renting (Now you are thinking of other ways of doing this, right?).
- While in field think through which data or photo may be good for creating content for social media. You think it is cool to post something on social media basing on field experience. Whatever you do ensure that it brings business (because if you don’t, how will we earn).
- Explain or plan together what to do and as well share what you’ve done to the director. Yes, because sometimes you will do all this with the director (he’s cool but smilingly tougher than the boss; both are workaholics).
- Learn something new (how else will you negotiate a raise). Our boss likes sharing learning opportunities and she likes teaching others new things (Choose those you deem appropriate for you, otherwise you may spend an entire day in trainings).
- Call it a day and ride back home. However, on a special abnormal day, you don’t mind going out with the team, or working during some abnormal hours to finish up some deadlines.
