Job Summary: The Driver will provide efficient and safe transportation of authorized personnel and/or commodities. The job holder will drive WFP Light Vehicles in accordance with Safety Standards, Plan routing, and keep a daily log of fuel, Mileage etc. Carry out day to day basic maintenance and repairs. They will be expected to keep the vehicle clean, as well as always communicate their locations on radio, responsible for vehicles safety. The job will involve basic administrative assistance in the office or stores as assigned in the Job description below.
Key Duties and Responsibilities:
- Drive office vehicles for the transportation of authorized personnel.
- Collect and deliver mails, documents and other items.
- Facilitate missions including donor missions, programme and general administrative missions.
- Take care of the day-to-day maintenance of the assigned vehicles, check oil, water, battery, brakes, tyres etc.; perform
- minor repairs and arrange for other repairs and ensure that the vehicle is kept clean.
- Log official trips, daily mileage, gas consumption, oil changes, greasing etc.
- Maintain records of driver’s travel and their overtime records
- Ensure that the steps required by rules and regulations are taken in case of involvement in an accident.
- Perform other related duties
Qualifications, Skills and Experience:
- The ideal candidate for the United Nations UN World Food Programme (WFP) Driver job placement must have completed secondary school. Formal drivers training with a valid driver’s license/certification to operate assigned vehicle following local rules and regulations.
- Five years of work experience as a driver in an international organization, embassy or UN system with a demonstrated safe driving record.
- Previous experience in driving a variety of makes and models of vehicles, including vans, trucks and other kinds of motorised vehicles. Experience in defensive driving is desirable.
- Knowledge of driving rules and regulations.
- Skills in basic maintenance and repairs, technical knowledge of vehicle components and maintenance.
- Competencies: Ability to live and work in a difficult environment; compliance with safety rules, good judgment for route planning; good communication skills; trustworthy; high sense of responsibility; alertness; physical fitness on duty; emotional stability, neat and courteous; good knowledge of Uganda and the road condition
- Language: Fluency (level C) in the UN language in use at the duty station and in the duty station’s language (Ngakarimojong, Lebthur and/or Swahilii languages is an added advantage.
