Consultant to Assist the Establishment of a DIGNITY Office in Uganda, Kampala

Beginning of Contract: As soon as possible, latest by 15th February 2024
Duration of Contract: 8 months consultancy with possible extension and/or full-time employment
About DIGNITY:
DIGNITY is a Danish human rights and development organization dedicated to fighting against torture. It operates one of the first rehabilitation centers for survivors of torture in Denmark and works in more than 20 countries worldwide.
Scope of Work:
The consultant will assist DIGNITY in establishing a branch office in Kampala, Uganda. The tasks include:
- Identifying and establishing a physical office space.
- Ensuring compliance with Ugandan law for NGO operations.
- Setting up a financial system in alignment with DIGNITY’s system.
- Representing DIGNITY in meetings and events.
- Providing recommendations on operational procedures and standards.
- Building up projects and strengthening synergies between current projects in Uganda.
- Identifying new partners and thematic areas.
- Advising on contextual challenges, human rights situations, and funding opportunities.
- Regular reporting on progress and human rights situations.
Qualifications, Skills, and Experience:
- A university degree in social sciences, human rights, law, or a related field.
- Fluency in English, both written and oral.
- Proficiency in IT skills (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook, online meeting tools).
- At least 10 years of professional experience in administration, NGO development, or humanitarian work.
- 5 years of experience in human rights/development work in Uganda.
- Experience in developing and implementing large development programmes.
- Project management skills, including Logical Framework Approach and Theories of Change.
- Experience with donor compliance and communication.
- Coordination and communication skills.
- Flexibility and ability to work independently and as a team player.
- Experience in establishing/running an NGO branch office in Uganda is advantageous.
- Knowledge of the human rights, civil society, justice, and health sectors in Uganda.
