Job Summary: The Declaration Officer will accurately prepare and process error free customs entries on behalf of the company within the laid down legal and statutory requirements for the customs clearance procedure.
Key Duties and Responsibilities:
- Make customs declarations to customs.
- Help clients make payments to URA for taxes or other dues;
- Help with processing of TIN Numbers for clients and should be facilitated;
- Give daily updates internally of the status of jobs being handled;
- Give timely updates to clients on their respective shipments;
- Maintain a general register for all consignments received / released;
- Maintain proper files of the customs documents for each client;
- Follow up with process of clearance of goods till release by Customs;
- Where applicable help with timely delivery of goods to clients;
- Attend meetings when delegated with Customs or Other Government Agencies regarding Operations work;
- Apply for tax exemption and reduction for both imports and exports;
- Any other duties assigned by your Supervisor.
Qualifications, Skills and Experience:
- The ideal applicant for the CJ Smart Cargo Declaration Officer job must hold a Diploma or Bachelor’s degree in Procurement and Logistics or related field.
- Should have successfully undertaken and graduated from the EACFFPC course.
- Three to five years of working experience in Customs Clearance and Freight Forwarding processes in Uganda.
- Excellent command of the English language.
- Knowledgeable of the basic Customs Nomenclature, laws and terminology.
- Excellent Interpersonal skills
- Excellent communication skills
- Information management skills
- Attention to detail
- Must be Ugandan
