About UNHCR:
The Office of the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees was established on December 14, 1950 by the United Nations General Assembly. UNHCR’s mandate under the Statute of the Office of the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees is to lead and co-ordinate action for international protection to refugees; seek permanent solutions for the problems of refugees and safeguard refugee rights and well-being. UNHCR has an additional mandate concerning issues of statelessness, as it is given a designated role under Article 11 of the 1961 Convention on the Reduction of Statelessness.
Job Summary: The Administration (Facilities) Assistant is responsible for the upkeep and maintenance of all gensets, buildings and prefabs as per technical guidance and specifications established by the organisation. The incumbent will be required to follow strict instructions, safety and security guidance provided by the supervisor
Key Duties and Responsibilities:
- Ensure that all organizational gensets are in serviceable conditions
- Compile monthly fuel consumption report for all gensets
- Perform daily physical checks for oil, water, battery, and ensure that all organizational gensets are maintained in accordance with the established security, safety, environmental standards
- Record daily generator running hours, fuel consumption, oil changes, service dates, etc.
- Ensure that operational stock level or strategic fuel level is maintained at all times
- Perform minor electrical, mechanical and plumbing repairs
- The incumbent will inspect buildings and prefabs to determine functional systems and detect malfunctions and needed repairs and making recommendations
- Replace light bulbs
- Pick up supplies and deliver supplies and materials
- Follow all applicable safety rules and procedures
- Perform other related duties as required
Key Performance Indicators:
- Organizational gensets, prefabs and facilities are properly maintained and equipped as per technical guidance and specifications established by UNHCR
- Follow security and safety regulations, and pay special attention to the environment
Qualifications, Skills and Experience:
- The ideal candidate for the United Nations UNHCR Administration (Facilities) Assistant job placement should have completed post-primary education or equivalent technical or vocational education
- At least two years of previous job experience relevant to the position
- Basic understanding of electrical, plumbing and genset management is essential
- Good knowledge of English and knowledge of local language
- Mechanical, electrical, plumbing and generator management skills
- Ability to work in remote areas
- Must be able to work flexible hours and weekends
