Laboratory Assistant Position at International Rescue Committee (IRC) in Kiryandongo, Uganda

The International Rescue Committee (IRC), a leading global humanitarian organization responding to the world’s worst crises, is seeking a dedicated and skilled Laboratory Assistant for our operations in Kiryandongo, Uganda. About the Role:

Under the supervision of the laboratory technician, the Laboratory Assistant will play a key role in coordinating and executing a range of tasks in the clinical laboratory. This includes overseeing specimen collection, referral activities, training new staff, and ensuring the maintenance of high-quality standards in all procedures.

Key Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Overseeing specimen collection and referral activities.
  • Preparing laboratory requisitions for outpatients.
  • Providing training for new Phlebotomists.
  • Processing sample tests in technical areas.
  • Updating phlebotomy procedures and specimen requirement manuals.
  • Recording workload and managing supply/equipment inventory.
  • Ensuring adherence to chemical hygiene and laboratory safety procedures.

Qualifications, Skills, and Experience:

  • A certificate in laboratory studies from a recognized institution.
  • Registration and licensing with the Allied Health Professional Council.
  • At least two years of work experience, preferably with experience in refugee services.
  • Strong skills in planning, organizing, quality control, communication, ethics, and integrity.
  • Ability to manage stress, time, and maintain self-control in challenging situations.
