The International Rescue Committee (IRC) is seeking a dedicated Early Childhood Development (ECD) Assistant for their Kulea Watoto program in Kyegegwa, Uganda. This role is integral to supporting the initiative aimed at improving early childhood development and transforming livelihoods of refugees and host communities.

About IRC and the Kulea Watoto Program: IRC responds to the world’s worst humanitarian crises, helping people affected by conflict and disaster. The Kulea Watoto program, funded by the Conrad N. Hilton Foundation, is designed to provide nurturing care and early childhood learning opportunities for young children under five years of age and their caregivers in refugee and host communities in Uganda.

Job Summary: The ECD Assistant will be responsible for implementing ECD activities at the field level in Kyaka II refugee settlement and surrounding host community. This role involves community mobilization and sensitization, training, mentorship, documentation, reporting, and monitoring of ECD activities.

Key Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Support in identifying, selecting, and registering target clients and forming ECCD groups.
  • Mobilize target clients for engagement in responsive caregiving and early learning opportunities.
  • Implement activities as per the approved work plan.
  • Develop ECCD improvement plans and provide essential materials to parent groups and ECCD providers.
  • Deliver training on responsive caregiving and early learning.
  • Supervise ECD infrastructure improvement activities and establishment of supervised care groups.
  • Coordinate with field-based team members for integration of ECD and livelihoods.
  • Monitor ECCD performance/progress and document best practices and lessons learned.
  • Prepare weekly and monthly program reports.
  • Participate in assessments, surveys, and verification exercises.

Qualifications, Skills, and Experience:

  • Diploma or bachelor’s degree in early childhood development, education, social sciences, or related field. A certificate in ECD education with 2 years’ work experience will be considered.
  • Experience working in refugee contexts and promoting teamwork.
  • Fluency in English is required. Knowledge of local languages (Arabic, etc.) is an added advantage.
