Job Summary:
The ESG Officer will play a critical role in implementing the bank’s commitment to sustainable and responsible business practices. This includes implementing ESG strategies and ensuring compliance with relevant standards and procedures. The role involves conducting environmental and social impact assessments, risk analysis, and due diligence for new credit proposals, ensuring clients and projects comply with the bank’s ESG requirements.
Key Duties and Responsibilities:
- Provide technical expertise on environmental, social impact assessment, and sustainability risks.
- Manage and conduct ESG due diligence for new credit proposals.
- Design and incorporate mitigation measures for ESG impacts in projects.
- Supervise projects to ensure the implementation of mitigation measures.
- Work with clients and bank units to enhance environmental and social sustainability.
- Conduct stakeholder consultations in line with policies and guidelines.
- Provide capacity building on ESG topics and report on good practices.
- Develop tracking and monitoring mechanisms for ESG-related covenants and inspections.
- Work with Credit Managers and Relationship Managers to implement remedial plans for noncompliant customers.
- Ensure adherence to bank policies, regulatory requirements, and control procedures.
Qualifications, Skills, and Experience:
- A University Degree in Environmental Management, Environmental Sciences, Environmental Law, Industrial Engineering, or a relevant field.
- Certification in sustainability standards is advantageous.
- Experience in environmental/social risk assessment in various industries is desirable.
- Strong decision-making, stakeholder management, and communication skills.
- Proficiency in negotiation and organizational skills.
- Knowledge of banking products, credit risk management systems, banking acts, and legal risks.
