About US:

African Initiatives for Relief and Development (AIRD) is a non-governmental, non-political, non-religious and non-profit making organization with the main aim of protecting and seeking durable solutions for Refugees and IDPs in Africa in partnership with UNHCR the UN refugee agency.

Job Summary: The Program Manager will review, monitor and evaluate all information about the various activities conducted in each Country Program while ensuring compliancy to Donor requirements. The selected candidate will have the opportunity to work with a devoted team, to Empower Communities, Growing Together.

Key Duties and Responsibilities: 

General Management:

  • Implement AIRDs SOPs and partnership agreement regulations as stipulated in the signed Donor agreement
  • Participate actively in preparing project proposals and budgets for the program operations
  • Provide technical guidance to other country Program Managers to ensure the whole team has a clear understanding of the AIRD mandate and projects in the specific country programs
  • Attend relevant program coordination meetings and interagency meetings as required for AIRD and develop partnership with the actors and forums relevant to the program.
  • And any other duties assigned

Specific duties

  • Keenly monitor and analyze all AIRD activities in the respective country program.
  • Ensure highest standards of technical and program performance quality while meeting all Donor compliance requirements
  • Establish and maintain effective communication and a high level of coordination with relevant agencies regarding program management matters
  • Provide updates to Management on any issues relating to the programs (operational or financial) on monthly, quarterly and annual basis for decision-making purposes
  • Ensure internal & external linkages between AIRD Programs and all other similar players and stakeholders
  • Contribute to AIRD’s sustainable development and ongoing service delivery through program development, partnership development, new business development and grant management
  • Support the development of country background papers and country strategies, in line with AIRD’s overall strategy
  • Research and identify institutional donors and investors that are a good match for AIRD and work close with them to get innovative ideas
  • Prepare necessary work plans for each program from the Donor agreements to be monitored on a monthly, quarterly and annual basis
  • Develop or review and update existing questionnaires for monthly reports, quarterly reports, annual reports, comprehensive survey for the Country Program Offices
  • Analyze and maintain data relevant to AIRD’s operations from UNHCR’s country fact sheet, operations updates, snapshots, reference maps, and other sources
  • Monitor on daily basis UNHCR partner portal and update the Director of Operations about new Call of Expressions relevant to AIRD’s Operations and prospective opportunities for further action
  • Develop, implement and coordinate systems for tracking project development objectives, results, outcomes, outputs, activities and input indicators and develop data collection tools and procedure to support monitoring.
  • Support the development of quality Log frames, results frame works and theories of change.

Qualifications, Skills and Experience:

  • The applicant must hold a Bachelors degree in Project Planning & Management, Monitoring and Evaluation with 5 years experience in a related field or a Masters degree in the same fields with 3 years of experience;
  • Previous experience in institutional and organizational strengthening, project planning and management;
    Proven knowledge & experience in conducting M&E work in humanitarian relief and development;
  • Ability to write clearly articulate proposals, reports, and correspondence;
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills;
  • Good analytical skills and ability to present complex information precisely;
  • Capacity to lobby, influence and represent AIRD at all levels;
  • Previous experience in working with international development partners, international nongovernmental organization (INGOs) and donors;
  • UNHCR experience is an asset. Must be conversant in English (written and spoken).
  • Good knowledge in French is an advantage.
