With a focus on promoting regional solutions to local problems, KT aims to make agricultural markets work better for poverty reduction and hunger elimination. They collaborate with governments, international organizations, regional bodies, and the private sector to support the transformation of food and nutrition security in the EAC Region.
Job Summary:
The Program Officer – Business Development will play a vital role in strengthening KT’s fundraising and business development functions. This position is crucial for generating sustainable resources for agribusiness transformation and organizational needs. The incumbent will provide technical assistance in identifying opportunities, preparing expressions of interest, concept notes, and full proposals. Moreover, they will build partnerships and consortia to co-create projects and attract more funders to commit resources.
Key Duties and Responsibilities:
Business Development:
- Identify and track relevant funding opportunities and inform Country Offices (COs) and partners.
- Conduct prospecting visits to COs to prepare for upcoming funding opportunities.
- Manage pre-solicitation proposal preparations and bid planning.
- Represent KT’s business development interests at relevant meetings, events, and networks.
- Contribute to expanding KT’s consultant roster for key technical and bid preparation functions.
- Identify, steward, and build relationships with institutional and corporate donors.
- Develop new business models in agricultural value chains, food security, climate change adaptation, and digital solutions.
- Initiate fundraising activities aimed at raising funds for KT’s projects.
Technical:
- Provide technical assistance and support to KT programs by reviewing scalable funding models.
- Maintain a database/library of proposals and business development materials.
- Prepare proposal documents, ensuring compliance with requirements.
- Write proposal sections, including technical approach, past performance, and annexes.
- Maintain up-to-date proposal templates and boilerplate materials.
Qualifications, Skills, and Experience:
- Master’s degree in international development, Management, Business Administration, Marketing, or a related field. A post-graduate degree in Partnerships and business development is an added advantage.
- Five years of professional experience in leading resource mobilization or income generation functions, preferably for a non-profit organization.
- Experience in successful proposal development for I-NGOs and other donors, including multilateral solicitations.
- Excellent coordination, communication, and interpersonal skills.
- Strong technical skills in writing, editing, formatting, research, and negotiation.
- Ability to coordinate multiple projects, work under pressure, and meet deadlines.
- International field experience in relevant technical sectors is a plus.
