Job Summary: The Project Officer – Right to Grow will play an important role in supporting the Project Coordinator, and Partners in the day to day planning and implementation of project (Right to Grow) activities ensuring timely and quality completion of planned activities in line with World Vision Uganda and donor guidelines and processes.
Key Duties and Responsibilities:
Project planning and implementation
- Implement all planned project activities with expertise and in a manner that leads to attainment of the project goal and outcomes.
- Support the project coordinator to conduct capacity assessments for partner CBOs and other target organizations
- Organize a nutrition and multi-stakeholder consultative meeting on key WASH and nutrition integrated messages
- Conduct formative research to inform the design of communication for behavior change strategies
- Regularly develop and share monthly activity plans with the Project Coordinator
- Ensure 100% implementation of the planned project activities on a monthly basis and that budgets are not under and over spent
- Develop activity and budget tracking tool, and use on a monthly basis to track and report on activity and budget management
- Orient the CBOs and CSO leaders and DNCCs on the Budget cycle
- Train a selected number of CSOs and CBOs representatives and the DNCCs on budget tracking
- Conduct consultative meetings in the target districts on the challenges of preventing under nutrition.
- Conduct a functionality assessment for District Nutrition Coordination Committees in the targeted district
Community engagement and advocacy
- Work closely with the project coordinator, project partners and WVU Advocacy team to lobby local governments to invest in the product models for replication in other sub-counties.
- Organize actors’ leaders meeting to formalize, terms of collaboration, coordination structure and mechanism for district CSO nutrition platform
- Support the project coordinator in the coordination of field level activities
- Organize dissemination meetings at the districts and national levels.
- Organize capacity building sessions to strengthen DNCCs
- Convene quarterly nutrition multi-stakeholder meetings on progress of preventing under nutrition at district levels
- Organize annual nutrition priority setting and planning workshops at the district levels.
- Under-take a landscape analysis of food, nutrition and WASH donors in
- Generate lobbying briefs for engaging donors to align budgets and programmes
- Organize lobbying meetings with donors on budget alignments
- Carry out stakeholders review sessions on donor commitments
Documentation, Reporting and knowledge management
- Map out public health facilities in the target sub counties and document their profiles
- Mobilize leaders of CBOs, CSOs and community structures and orient them in social accountability using CVA and VCA
- Select a gender sensitive and inclusive working team and train them in CVA and VCA practices, including nutrition services delivery standards.
- Undertake review of annual donor country strategies and budgets for integration and alignment of food, nutrition and WASH.
- Share outcomes with stakeholders at the district and national levels
- Organize a dissemination workshop at the target district and national levels
Strengthen compliance practices
- Ensure a strict compliance to the WVU child safeguarding practices with respect to the child and adult safeguarding management policy, PSEA/code of conduct at all times; monitoring and reporting on compliance to child and adult safeguarding management policy standards in the project/project area.
- Mobilization and facilitation of communities, local organizations, local government and institutions to participate in Child protection designs, planning, implementation, monitoring and evaluation including reporting on child protection priorities
- Facilitate child and adult safeguarding policy dialogues and campaign interventions by ensuring linkages and coherence in engagements within the project and Area and National level, in the context of integrated ministry.
- Work closely with the line supervisor(s) to ensure integration of Peace & Child Protection interventions in the project including uptake and effective roll out of CP project models and approaches
- Facilitate effective and meaningful participation of children as agents of change in all project interventions/processes in line with WV Child Participation guidelines
- Engage with project partners to assess and address the existing child protection related issues in the community and ensure appropriate and timely reporting/action is undertaken on CP incidents
- Facilitate child protection advocacy campaigns and engagements at community level to ensure policy implementation and change
- Build multi-sectoral linkages and community based initiatives, networks and coordination mechanisms in establishing and strengthening child protection prevention, response and referral pathways to allow a more efficient access to services for the MVC.
- Build skills and capacity of communities, CPCs, Para-social workers to work with other local duty-bearers & service providers to understand and independently carry-out child protection actions to effectively respond to child abuse cases in line with standard case management procedures and principles
Budget and asset management
- Planned project activities are implemented per approved budget and workplans ensuring any deviations are approved prior to implementation
- Manage assets for the project in line with assets and related policy guidelines
- Ensure timely and accurate accountability and reporting for all implemented activities in line with WVU and donor provisions
Qualifications, Skills and Experience:
- The ideal applicant for the World Vision Project Officer – Right to Grow job must hold a Bachelor of Science in Human Nutrition and Dietetics, Bachelor of Development Studies. A postgraduate in Water and sanitation is added advantage.
- At least four years of working experience in a related field with a reputable humanitarian organization in Uganda
- Minimum of 2 years’ experience in implementing a Nutrition, Livelihood or WASH projects with a bias in nutrition
- Demonstrated experience working with some of the major donors
- Experience working with multi sector partners and coordination will be very important for this role
- Experience facilitating or leading advocacy and campaigns would be added advantage
- Possess excellent communication, facilitation, networking and relationship building skills

- Ability to communicate in applicable local language(s)
- Track record demonstrating high integrity, reliability and dependable
- Ability to work with minimal supervision.
- Must be a committed Christian, able to stand above denominational diversities.
- Willing to attend and participate/lead in daily devotions and weekly Chapel services.
- Ability to ride a motor cycle and with a valid riding permit. Able to represent World Vision to major donors in a manner that is professional
- The position requires ability and willingness to be in the field/community full time- 90% of the time.
