On behalf of our client, we are looking for a competent, skilled, and experienced Route Planner to work in Kampala Uganda.
Job Summary: The Route Planner will be responsible for the operational activities of the Delivery-function with duties including, but not limited to, route planning of delivery trucks/vans, health and safety implementation by ensuring actual driving/delivery shift-time is within the required legal parameters, On Time In Full (OTIF) Delivery performance and overall service-quality across the Company delivery value-chain.
Key Duties and Responsibilities:
- Customer Service drives your role. You are obsessed with delivering the Company orders OTIF;
- You plan the available fleet of delivery trucks/vans to deliver all outstanding orders OTIF, in the most cost-effective way.
- To perform route planning across the Company Delivery-network using the Company authorized information system platform, and review clusters per route every day in light with the growth and Dynamic Route Planning expectations.
- To manage projects & participate in projects relating to expansion of delivery routes, with a focus on mobilizing resources that balances between people, processes and information system deployment;
- To ensure all operational expenses related to the Company deliveries are maintained within the laid budget (planning to optimize routes and reduce actual driving distances, and leverage on optimal service time to deliver best in class OTIF Delivery Service);
- Schedule deliveries and assign to appropriately trained /vetted drivers;
- Responsible for ensuring all Delivery activity is carried out in a professional manner and complies with current legislation governing drivers and trucks/vans;
- Decide and plan (approved) 3rd party support for deliveries (i.e. appropriately trained and vetted subcontractors);
- Continuously monitor the delivery status, and report any unsolved discrepancies to the Head of SC;
- Take action to solve potential delivery delays e.g. coordinating drivers and driver assistants;
- Inform Customer Service on (potential) delays impacting agreed service levels and negative status codes.
- To manage Driver’s Assistants (DA) and driver performance across the Company fleet using the Company Delivery App, C-track and Chartio delivery Dashboard.
- Plan deliveries according to capacity and consult the vehicle sourcing supervisor to facilitate trucks, solve outbound and inbound related issues on real-time basis.
- Work with Sales operations on New agent’s sign-up and new delivery co-ordinates.
- Comply with state laws on occupational health & safety in transport.
- Develop, maintain, and adhere to vehicle safety procedures as well as driver and delivery assistant orientation programs.
- Coordinate Outbound and Inbound Logistics planning.
- You pragmatically solve problems that your fleet might encounter (fit. truck stuck in muddy road due to excessive rain).
- You ensure returns are properly ‘shuttled’ back to the Company fulfilment Centre.
Qualifications, Skills and Experience:
- A Higher Diploma/Degree from a recognized institution.
- CILT Professional Qualifications will be an added advantage.
- Having experience in route-planning and/or having worked with the Company programmes or similar software, is advantageous.
- You have outstanding planning and organization capabilities.
- You have a structured approach to dealing with a fleet of delivery vehicles and teams.
- Ability to work on various information systems platforms such as Route Planning/Scheduling Software, Fleet-Management Systems, Warehouse-Management Systems and Microsoft Word Suite programs.
- Knowledge of the rural/peri-urban delivery network and the various parties within the value-chain.
- A team worker with excellent verbal, written and communication skills.
- Analytical and result oriented.
- Proactive in your work and take the initiative to propose and implement new approaches.
- High level of integrity.
- Innovative and out of the box thinking.
- Should have a sound judgement when it comes to making choices related to delivery of orders.
