About US Embassy:
The United States Embassy in Kampala, Uganda has enjoyed diplomatic relations with Uganda for over 30 years. Ambassador Deborah R. Malac currently heads the U.S Mission to Uganda. The Mission is composed of several offices and organizations all working under the auspices of the Embassy and at the direction of the Ambassador.
Among the offices operating under the U.S Mission to Uganda are:
- United States Agency for International Development (USAID)
- Centers for Disease Control (CDC)
- Peace Corps
Key Duties and Responsibilities:
- Serves as a Maintenance Mechanic in General Services Office / Motor pool (GSO). Maintain and repair State and CDC Government owned vehicles. Observe the safe and reliable operation of all motor vehicles regarding proper service and repair.
- Follow the scheduled maintenance services for all vehicle and ensures compliance and following the regulations.
- Ascertain proper maintenance of motorcycles, lawn mowers, chain saws and weed eaters.
- Besides maintenance, carry out repair on any malfunctioning parts or system. This includes mechanical, engine failure; faulty carburation; transmission trouble – clutch slip, hard gear shift, etc, loose or worn suspension, electrical/electronic; failure to start; faulty charging system, faulty lighting system; faulty ignition system; troubled antilock brake system. Hydraulic: brake and clutch failure, power steering troubles, lift trucks. Pneumatic: air brake and clutch failure, shift gear failure, air conditioning.
- Determine the purchase of replacement parts after consultation with the supervisor. Local purchase is only done in case of emergency and when parts are not in stock. Make purchases on genuine, appropriate and reasonably priced parts.
Qualifications, Skills and Experience:

- The applicants for the United States US Embassy Auto Mechanic job opportunity should have completed Secondary School or Local Mandatory Schooling and received high school diploma.
- In addition to completion of one year of vocational training or apprenticeship recognized as producing journeyman mechanic skills or equivalent experience is required.
- One year of automotive mechanic experience is required.
- Must have full journeyman mechanic knowledge of established practices and procedures in the specific trade involved.
- A good working knowledge of USG regulations as it pertains to official vehicle preventative maintenance and repair.
- Knowledge of commercial and local market costs for parts and supplies, local dealerships and maintenance facilities for specialized auto servicing and repairs.
- Must be able to use all tools of the trade. lifts moderately heavy objects – up to 40 lbs.
- Language: English level II (Limited) Reading/Writing/Speaking is required. This may be tested.
