The Danish Refugee Council (DRC) is a private, independent, humanitarian organization working on all aspects of the refugee cause in more than 36 countries throughout the world. The aim of DRC is to protect refugees and internally displaced persons (IDPs) against persecution and to promote durable solutions to the problems of forced migration, on the basis of humanitarian principles and human rights. DRC works in accordance with the UN Conventions on Refugees and the Code of Conduct for the ICRC and NGOs in Disaster Relief.

Job Summary: The Driver will ensure safe and timely transportation of people and goods

Key Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Transport staff safely and timely using allocated vehicle as per shift roster
  • Conduct daily routine vehicle inspection according to the checklist and take corrective action
  • Conduct minor repairs such as wheel replacements and other ad hoc repairs.
  • Refuels the vehicle timely
  • Clean the vehicle and keep it in a tidy state
  • Check the vehicle has all the safety requirements/equipment (working safety belt, working horn, first aid box, wheel jack and spanner, fire extinguisher, reflective triangles)
  • Adhere to speed limits
  • Ensure the vehicle has valid license and insurance
  • Ensure all passengers adhere to vehicle safety instructions
  • Report in a timely manner any incidents or accidents
  • Report timely any conditions affecting the safety of the driver, passengers and the vehicle
  • Log official trips, daily mileages covered, fuel top ups ,oil changes in the logbook
  • Keep the log book updated for every journey and in good condition

Qualifications, Skills and Experience:

  • The ideal applicant for the Danish Refugee Council (DRC) Driver job must hold a Class B driving permit
  • Three to five years of driving experience
  • Good interpersonal, communication skills with proven experience in communicating with stakeholders at all levels;
  • Ability to work under pressure and with tight deadlines;
  • A team player and the ability to work with minimum supervision;
  • Languages:  Fluency in English. Fluency in local languages would be an asset.
