The Infectious Diseases Institute, established within Makerere University, is a Ugandan not-for-profit organization which aims to strengthen health systems in Africa, with a strong emphasis on infectious diseases; through research and capacity development.
Job Summary: The Locum Academic Psychologist/ Social Scientist Will be required to provide both academic and practical psychology / social science support to Ugandan Academy of Health Innovation for research and implementation of behavioural change interventions using new technologies including tools for COVID and Ebola support and support human centred design of new technologies.
Key Duties and Responsibilities:
- Be able to work in a multidisciplinary research study
- To adapt health information tips from WHO/ MoH of Uganda into health information for Health studies
- Support community information dissemination, community surveillance and encourage health seeking behavior
- To work on analysis of FGD and IDI with the Academy social science team
- Engage with local communities in the local languages
- Provide psychological support to distressed members of the community if necessary with support from Clinical psychologist
- Support development of new technologies from human centred design perspective
Qualifications, Skills and Experience:
- The ideal candidate must hold a Bachelor’s degree and Masters degree. Either bachelors or Masters must be in a psychology related subject.
- At least two years work experience
- Experience of working in both clinical setting and academic is an added advantage
- Ability to communicate with community in at least one local language (Luganda,
Lugbara, Swahilli) an advantage
- Knowledge and understanding of health related infectious diseases such as Ebola/
HIV / COVID
- Knowledge of good communication skills
- Ability to work in unsupervised environment
- Ability to fully participate in a team
- Experience writing research articles with at least one publication/ conference presentation
- Knowledge of Microsoft packages such as word and excel essential. Experience with
Nvivo software an advantage
