DFCU Limited was started by the Commonwealth Development Corporation (CDC) of the United Kingdom and the Government of Uganda through the Uganda Development Corporation (UDC) under the name of Development Finance Company of Uganda Limited. Later restructuring brought in DEG (of Germany) and International Finance Corporation (IFC) as equal partners with CDC and UDC, each having a 25% stake in the company. Its objective was to support long-term development projects whose financing needs and risk did not appeal to the then existing financial commercial lending institutions.
Job Summary: The Regional Credit Analyst will be responsible for analysing information and data on customers and preparing quality credit proposals for large and complex deals for both new and existing clients in the corporate banking unit in a timely manner while in line with stipulated guidelines. The role also follows up with relevant internal teams to ensure a seamless credit analysis process.
Key Duties and Responsibilities:
- Prepare proposals for large and complex credit facilities that meet dfcu bank credit approval requirements to grow the asset base (portfolio) and related bank revenues like interest income, commissions and fees.
- Structuring facilities and collaterals/security, constant monitoring of credit exposures to minimize NPAs.
- Providing guidelines and valuable suggestions for improving quality of applications for quick decisioning and booking of a quality portfolio.
- Guide and mentor credit analysts under their indirect supervision.
- Maintenance of credit files and ensuring that credit related records are properly documented.
- Perform industry studies and conducts financial analyses of segment customers using credit review skills and financial expertise to support productive sales performance credit scoring.
- Evaluate and acquire a good understanding of the risk associated with individual transactions, products, and borrowers.
- Advise RMs on the quality of the portfolio by analysing the NPA ratios of their customers, portfolio at risk, accounts in arrears.
- Make client courtesy calls and visits to provide advisory services to achieve portfolio quality.
- Timely resolution of customer issues that require analysis on their accounts.
- Review existing credit facilities on an annual basis and make necessary propositions like renewals, restructures, etc.
- Timely submission of required documents to credit and legal teams to have fast turnaround time.
- Compliance to internal controls as per credit approval criteria as detailed in the Credit Policy and Operational Guidelines to avoid/minimize loss of revenue and prevention of frauds and forgeries.
Qualifications, Skills and Experience:
- The ideal applicant must hold a Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, Business Administration, Statistics, or a related field.
- Additional training or professional qualification in Business and project appraisal, Risk management, financial analysis will be added advantage.
- At least four years’ experience in financial services environment with at least 2 in Credit Risk Management environment.
- Credit certification.
- Understand company financial statements (i.e., P&L and Balance Sheet).
- Analytical and problem-solving skills.
- Awareness of business issues and current economic/market trends.
- Computer knowledge especially working spread sheets, power point and word processor.
- Results- oriented individual with independent and sound judgment.
- Good written, verbal and communication skills.
- Self-driven and able to work efficiently under pressure.
- Good interpersonal skills, communication, and telephone skills.

- Organized and efficient i.e., goal and task oriented to complete multiple priorities and with the dynamic demands of the different teams in relationship management, credit sanctioning, disbursement, legal etc.
- Ability to keep abreast on changes in the market, customer requirements and competitors’ responses.
- Ability to identify new business /products on the market, opportunities, and threats in order to carry out a comprehensive credit analysis.
