About US:
The mission of the Infectious Diseases Institute (IDI) is to strengthen health systems in Africa, with a strong emphasis on infectious diseases through research and capacity development. IDI has six operational areas through which it works to achieve its mission: Prevention, Care and Treatment, Global Health Security, Training, Research, Laboratory services (including the CAPcertified IDI Core Lab) and Outreach.
Key Duties and Responsibilities:
- To take charge of the cleaning and sterilization of all theatre linen to include patient gowns, theatre gowns and drapes.
- The laundry assistant will work with the work with the sterilization nurse in Collecting, cleaning, disinfecting, packing and sterilizing surgical instruments and linen.
- Under supervision of the site team leader, ensure infection prevention and health care waste SOPs are adhered to and, that the minimum standards of SMC are adhered to.
- Regularly clean the theatre environment and it surroundings at the site and in circumcision outreaches as guided by MoH standards.
- Management of theatre waste using segregation systems as guided by MoH infection control SOPs.
- Manage the disposal of theatre waste as guided by MoH infection control SOPs.
Qualifications, Skills and Experience:
- The ideal applicant should have minimum requirement is a certificate in a health related discipline
- At least two years working experience in an operating theatre setting.
- Basic training and understanding of key infection prevention requirements in a health care setting.
- Basic understanding of HIV/AIDS.
