Job Summary: The Early Child Development Care Giver will actively contribute to all efforts that promote holistic development of all children enrolled at the centre through preparation of age appropriate learning and play materials, planning and facilitation of activities that timely respond to the ECD physical, social, emotional and mental or cognitive developmental needs
Key Duties and Responsibilities:
- Mobilize and sensitize the community/parents on ECD and ECCE services through community meetings/fora both at the Center and in the community to get their buy-in, support and ownership.
- Register children with all the relevant details including any form of vulnerability as may be demanded for ECD services at the Centre.
- Prepare and Conduct age appropriate, culturally meaningful/ accepted ECD relevant learning activities with children using the common language easily understood by learners.
- Select or make instructional resources and materials for ECD bearing in mind the cultural connotation, gender, children with disability and language.
- Maintain and keep daily records of pupils’ attendance, records of children works at the ECD Centre. Ensure good hygiene, monitor health and ensure immediate isolation who need extra care
- Guide and counsel pupils and parents/caregivers of the children including family visits for children with specific needs/supports.
- Coordinate with other ECD services providers and resourceful members of the community to ensure integrated ECD service delivery at the centre
- Control pupils’ behaviour and learning conditions in and out of ECD Center and making proper use of the all the learning materials or tool kits that may be provided to promote children’s learning.
- Organize structured play activities at the ECD Center to promote children’s growth and development.
- Link up with children’s families to ensure coordinated support to children both at the Centre and back home and promote parents participation at the centre’s activities
- Take good care of all ECD materials/items/equipment and maintain the ECD Center in good and attractive condition.
- In case of an emergency such as sickness with a child, fire outbreak or anything of emergency nature, quickly liaise with the chairperson of the Center Management Committee or Camp Leadership to seek a solution.
- Working together with CMC in managing the ECD centre through mobilization of the community and the parents to support the various activities at the centre.
- Strictly adhere to and uphold all the professional code of conduct and relevant policies of the organisation ( Teachers code of conduct, FCA staff code of conduct, child protection and safeguarding policies and any other)
Qualifications, Skills and Experience:
- Completion of Ordinary level (UCE) or its equivalent from relevant schools
- Certificate in Community Child Care or ECD from a recognised institution is essential
- Demonstrated understanding and experience of using ECD learning framework ( ECD curriculum)
- Demonstrable abilities to develop Scheme of work, Daily routine or Classroom lesson planning carrying out learner’s assessment.
- Demonstrated ability and experience in learning material production for ECD learning.
- Ability to clearly express/ communicate, interpret and write in English
- Knowledge of Kiswahili and any other local language commonly spoken by children from DRC in Kyaka II refugee Settlement is a MUST.
- Willingness to work on Voluntary terms and serve the DRC refugee community in providing ECD services to the refugee children
- Interested in supporting children of age 0-3 and 3-6 years old to develop well and their parents
- Able to creatively use the surrounding environment to stimulate and meet the children’s early childhood development needs at the centre for example using local materials to produce learning Aids/ play materials etc
- Applicant should be interested to learn new things
- Should be able to work with less supervision and willing to commit him/herself to FCA Supported ECD centre fully during the working hours for ECD/CFS (Child Friendly Space) activities.
- A person with no previous record of child abuse.
- A letter of recommendation of good conduct from refugee leadership (Refugee Welfare Councils) should be provided for refugee applicants and for none refugee applicants, the same letter should be provided from Local Leaders (L.C I)
