Baylor College of Medicine Children’s Foundation -Uganda (Baylor-Uganda) is an indigenous not-for-profit child health and development organisation affiliated to the Baylor College of Medicine International Paediatric AIDS Initiative (BIPAI), a Network of paediatric HIV/AIDS care and treatment Children’s Clinical Centres of Excellence and international program offices in 11 countries across Africa and Eastern Europe.

Job Summary:   The Regional Coordinator – Infection prevention and control will support the implementation of the antimicrobial national action plan by strengthening infection prevention and control(IPC) and antimicrobial stewardship implementation in health care facilities and in the animal and environment sectors and regional and district level. Wil also support case management and IPC efforts during outbreak investigation and response.

Key Duties and Responsibilities:  

  • Work with the Project coordinator and Director to Plan, budget, implement and report on project activities.
  • Support health care facilities and PoE to institute and operationalize IPC committees and implement IPC activities.
  • Support health care facilities to institute and operationalize medicines and therapeutic committees.
  • Conduct capacity building activities including CME’s on IPC and antibiotic stewardship.
  • Participate in development, dissemination and monitoring implementation of national level IPC and antibiotic stewardships guidelines and SOPs.
  • Participate in IPC technical working group meetings
  • Participate in development and dissemination of national case management and IPC guidelines during outbreaks.
  • Provide TA to district task forces on implementation of case management and IPC activities during outbreaks.
  • Lead coordination of case management and IPC efforts in the region during outbreaks.
  • Support implementation of antibiotic stewardship activities at health facilities
  • Participate in joint supportive supervision and mentorship of health care workers.
  • Support integration of Infection prevention and control into health facility and district work plans and budgets.
  • Lead evaluation of hospital acquired infections and antibiotic use.
  • Lead capacity building for continuous quality improvement of IPC and antibiotic stewardship activities.
  • Participate in the dissemination of epidemiological findings through reports, presentations and peer-reviewed publications at sub-national, national level and international levels

Qualifications, Skills and Experience:

  • The applicant must hold an MBChB or BSC Nursing degree health related field.
  • Advanced degree in Field Epidemiology or Public Health
  • At least three years of experience providing clinical care in a health care setting.
  • Experience working in the health systems strengthening projects is an added advantage
