The IRC is there to protect women and children from violence and exploitation by fostering a safe environment and encouraging education, and is supporting farmers and small businesses, and helping communities promote peace and long-term development.
Job Summary: The Senior IT Officer will be primarily responsible to oversee and facilitate the IT function in the entire West Nile Region. This involves installation and configuration of IT infrastructure, staff training, Integra Go-Live activities and operations of IT activities in all the IRC West Nile offices. The Senior IT Officer will lead the West Nile IT team and work closely with the IT Manager, Regional ICT Director and all program sectors to ensure proper ICT functioning and support.
Key Duties and Responsibilities:
- IT Support – Provide Level 1 and Level 2 Support
- Work with end-users and IT colleagues (or Service Desk) on resolving Level 1 issues in all West Nile Offices
- Resolve or escalate Level 2 and Level 3 issues to appropriate internal or external resource (regional/international IT, management, and vendor) as necessary.
- Installation, Configuration & Management of: Servers, Windows server 2016 operating systems, domain and essential network services.
- Oversee the completion of Windows 10 upgrades on all the computers in West Nile.
- Desktop/laptop hardware and software, and peripherals, using IRC standard Windows 10 operating system image.
- Local Area Network, wireless network, peer-to-peer or client server architecture, as appropriate.
- Maintenance, Repair & Security
- Perform preventative maintenance on all IRC computers and network resources in West Nile.
- Implement and manage cloud backup solutions for office/individual users as per IRC IT recommendations and provide the necessary training on the use of these cloud back-up solutions.
- Create and maintain network documentation to include but not limited to IP address, system access, upgrades and changes to the original network, etc.
- Diagnose hardware and software faults by questioning clients patiently about a problem and explaining the procedures to them.
- Investigate local Internet connectivity options to obtain adequate bandwidth for Intranet and application connectivity with respective office VPN tunnels to the Kampala Head office.
- Closely collaborate with International and HQ IT team on helpdesk, connectivity and other in country and participate global IRC IT projects in close collaboration with the IT Manager in Kampala for the West Nile Offices.
- Any other IT related tasks assigned by the supervisor or IT Manager team to accomplish the overall organizational goals.
- Perform/coordinate backups on all the servers in West Nile offices to ascertain a working BCP and DRP of the organization.
- Training, Evaluation, & Testing
- Develop and implement regular user and support staff training, including training on basic care and maintenance of computers and equipment for users, Box utilization and any other initiatives that will be introduced by IRC IT HQ.
- Prepare and submit weekly reports on the status and actions taken in the West Nile region that best reflect the current picture of IT activities in the region.
- IT Asset Management
- Perform monthly IT verification exercise and share monthly IT Asset reports to the IT Assistant in Kampala for final consolidation.
- Create and maintain IRC computer software/hardware inventory ensuring accuracy.
- Maintain an updated IT Asset Registry, including software & licenses, MDM Air Watch Tokens, and all Sim Cards in use under IRC for the West Nile Region.
Qualifications, Skills and Experience:
- The ideal applicant must hold a Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science or equivalent technical work experience.
- At least three to four years of IT Management
- CCNA course desired, MCSE Server 2016 or equivalent experience is required.
- At least four years of experience in IT profession
- Experience installing, configuring and managing both wired and wireless LAN, and Meraki firewalls.
- Computer imaging skills required.
- Outlook experience required.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills required (fluency in both written and spoken English is required)
