Job Summary: The Senior Driver is responsible for the implementation of transport and fleet management in order to support program implementation.
Key Duties and Responsibilities:
Ensures provision of reliable and secure driving services
- Ensure the respect of the Ugandan traffic law while driving MI vehicles
- Follow the Line Manager’s planning and instructions
- Carry out office out-door messenger related duties
- Keep all personal documents as well as those of the vehicle with you and check that they are valid (driving license, insurance paper)
- Fill in the logbook every day according to MI procedures
- Respect MI security rules
Ensure the maintenance of the vehicle with respect to MI vehicle management
- Carry out daily checks before starting up the vehicle (oil level; water level; pressure of the tires etc.)
- Wash the car when needed and upon request from line manager
- Make sure that the security toolbox and first aid kit are complete and on board
- Inform the line manager when service is necessary
- Solve minor technical problems
- Inform the logistics department of any major repairs to be carried out
- Record all the maintenance done in the logbook of each vehicle
Ensure the respect of the departure and arrival time of your movement
- Inspect and prepare the vehicle the day before departure so as to be on time
- Prepare additional equipment to be brought along according to the needs (fuel, stickers, flags, tools, medical kit)
- Guarantee the good loading and unloading of the car and goods in an appropriate way
- Know the area map, especially MI staff houses, INGOs offices and relevant partners’ offices
- Ensure that non-MI staff sign a waiver of liability form
Supporting the logistics officer
- Contribute to the compilation of accurate monthly fuel usage reports for all vehicles
- Ensuring monthly vehicle service and maintenance reports are submitted on time
- Oversees fuel consumption purchase and tracking
Safety and Security
- Working closely with the Security Focal Person (SFP) to proactively ensure staff safety
- Assists the SFP in collecting, updating and communicating information regarding the security situation in the project location
- Assists the SFP in reporting security incidents affecting MI personnel, offices and assets for the project location
General: Perform any other duties as may be assigned
Qualifications, Skills and Experience:
- The ideal candidate for the Malteser International Senior Driver job must hold a diploma in Logistics/Procurement/ fleet management /Business Administration or related field
- Three years of experience as a driver with good understanding of INGO procedures
- Experience as a logistician is an added advantage
- Strong organizational skills
- Computer literate with hands on MS Office programs, especially in MS Excel
- A demonstrated ability to multi-task and process information into action as to not delay program activities
- Valid Driver’s License and ability to drive
- Fluency in English (written and spoken)
- Knowledge of local and beneficiary languages (Runyankitara, Swahili, French) will be considered an advantage
- Preferably a resident of South West
