African Leadership Fellowships

African Leadership Fellowships: The Firoz and Najma Lalji supported Programme for African Leadership will enable Africa’s most dynamic leaders access high level academic thinking and policy ideas on key contemporary debates from around the world and to take forward leadership for development.

Specifically designed for leaders from across Africa, the programme follows an intensive schedule of lectures, debates and seminars over a three week period. The curriculum has two main threads:

1. Leadership

2. International affairs and development studies

The first explores the nature and importance of leadership in a globalised world. It addresses issues of communication, ethical boundaries and working in coalitions.

The second involves examining contemporary global issues, including attention to Africa as part of a broader interest in international affairs and development. Participants can expect high quality teaching in subjects that are likely to include:

Economics
Climate Change
Poverty
Democracy
Governance
Media

Human Rights
Development
Decentralisation
Gender
BRICS
Health

The course is held each year at the London School of Economics. African Fellowships – Enduring Benefits

Participants on the London programme will automatically gain membership of the PfAL alumni network, forming and developing leadership connections that span the continent.

Each year, members of the network will be invited to a forum held in Africa to refresh their learning and skills, exchange ideas and share challenges.

Applications from all sectors and all African countries are welcome. African Fellowships – Leadership Course Applications

Applications must consist of the following:

Two signed references*
A copy of your academic transcripts (university level only please)
A copy of your current Curriculum Vitae
Proof of your English language capability.
You must provide a reference from your current employer, which should include a statement confirming they are willing to release you for the full duration of the Programme.The second reference should be an academic reference, or for those who have not attended university, a reference from a non-related professional.Bursaries
A number of full and partial bursaries are available, generously supported by Firoz andNajma Lalji.

Bursaries will cover one or more of the following elements:
Course fees
Accommodation
Flights
A stipend award which will reflect the estimated cost of living in London for the duration of the Programme.Candidates are asked during the application process to indicate whether they wish to apply for a bursary and also if their participation would be possible without financial support.Bursary applicants will be sent an additional form to complete later in the application cycle.
All applications are given equal consideration, irrespective of financial status.
